Portable Gantry Mill — Heavy Duty

The PGM-HD is Mactech’s heavy-duty gantry mill for on-site milling, drilling and machining jobs that are too big to move and too critical to compromise. Shipbuilding. Power generation. The HD extends in 4-foot rail sections for as long as your job needs for an extra 47.75” of travel per rail. To date, our longest customer build ran 12’ across three sections. And there’s no engineering reason to stop there.

How the PGM-HD holds the line

Most competitor portable gantry mills drive the X-axis with a ball screw on one side. That works at fixed lengths, but when you start adding rails for a bigger job, the machine gets harder to control. The driven side advances while the other drags along, giving the gantry more opportunity to skew as it travels.  On the Mactech PGM-HD, a rack-and-pinion drives each rail, with both sides tied together by a driveshaft running the width of the machine. Both sides move together. Both sides stay under positive drive. And when you add an X-axis length, you’re not asking one side to follow along. The PGM-HD stays square and holds the line.
