You can’t use a banana for scale when the whole platform’s yellow. 🍌⚙️

So we went with the next best thing: a full-sized human standing next to our Cutoff Diamond Wire Saw doing what it does best… cutting through 24” OD caissons with a grouted 16” OD casing inside.

Just another day in the offshore office.

The Job

Mactech was called in to help decommission an offshore oil and gas platform. Our role? Cut through massive caissons so the structure could be safely and cleanly removed.

With salt spray in the air and limited working space, we needed a cutting tool that was light, fast, and built for the conditions. Our Cutoff Diamond Wire Saw was the perfect fit.

What We Cut

  • 24” outer casing

  • 16” grouted casing inside

  • All cuts made near the surface

This kind of nested cut needs power, but also finesse. One wrong move and you’re adding hours to the job… or worse, compromising the integrity of surrounding structures.

Why It Worked

Our saw’s lightweight design and quick setup made it ideal for the tight conditions of an offshore platform. When you’re standing on grating 10 feet above the ocean, every pound of weight and every inch of maneuverability matters.

We got clean cuts, fast resets, and a happy customer.

Final Thoughts

Whether it’s concrete on land or steel offshore, our wire saws are built to perform in places where others can’t… or won’t… go.

Offshore decommissioning is never simple, but with the right tools and a team that knows how to use them, it doesn’t have to be slow or sloppy.
