Facing flanges flawlessly forms flat, functional fittings. (Try saying that five times fast — we dare you.)

At Mactech, we like our flanges flat and our measurements precise. That’s why we rolled out our portable flange facer and a laser tracker to tackle a four-pump challenge that needed more than just elbow grease.

Laser-Locked Accuracy
This wasn’t a “measure once, cut twice” kind of job. We used a laser tracker to capture precise data before, during, and after machining. That gave us full confidence in the accuracy of our cuts and left no surprises behind once the job was complete.

What We Found (And Fixed)
Before putting our portable flange facer to work, we measured the “as found” condition of each flange. By determining the minimum amount of material that needed to be removed, we preserved as much of the original component as possible — minimizing waste, cost, and downtime.

Precision Setup
We didn’t eyeball it. Using the laser tracker, we leveled the flange facer to the earth itself. Then, we indicated the existing O-ring groove to center the flange facer perfectly — because good enough isn’t good enough when you’re restoring sealing surfaces.

Machine, Then Reestablish
First, we machined each flange face to spec. Then, we reestablished the O-ring grooves to their original “as found” dimensions, bringing everything back into proper alignment — tight seals, happy pumps, and satisfied maintenance teams.

Why It Matters
When your system relies on tight tolerances and perfect seals, you don’t want to gamble on surface finish or alignment. Portable flange facers — when used with laser-level precision and expert operators — ensure you get it right the first time. That’s what we do.
